Therefore, Guangzhou is also known as Yangcheng (Sheep City) and Suicheng (Rice City). Located in the tropical south, Guangzhou enjoys a typical marine monsoon climate of the subtropical south. The city has a warm climate with abundant rainfall, where spring and autumn blend together, and there is no winter with long summers. It is a city of eternal greenery, hence the nickname "City of Flowers."
With a history of over 2,200 years, Guangzhou was first established as Panyu City in 214 BC by Ren Xiao. It gradually developed into a bustling metropolis with over a million people, located on the Tropic of Cancer. Its unique natural scenery of the southern region, rich historical and cultural heritage, numerous famous scenic spots and historical sites, distinctive local cuisine, and its proximity to Hong Kong and Macau, as well as its open-door policy to the outside world, have made Guangzhou one of China's earliest designated 24 historical and cultural cities. It is also a key tourist city in the country.
