Is menstrual breast pain and swelling related to ovarian inflammation?

Patient's question:

My menstrual period arrived on the 18th of December and ended on the 23rd. It was fairly regular, but the flow was very light. Additionally, the breast tenderness I experienced before the period hasn't subsided yet. Could you please tell me what might be the reason for this? Is it related to ovarian inflammation or any other inflammation?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, breast pain and fullness are related to the menstrual cycle, and should not be related to ovarian inflammation. Breast pain during menstruation: Many women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation; severe cases may cause pain even with slight vibrations or collisions of the breasts. This is due to the increase in estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, leading to breast hyperplasia and edema of the interstitial tissue. After menstruation, the above changes can disappear.
