Features: Pain is the main symptom of various diseases. It is closely related to the occurrence, development, changes in condition, and prognosis of diseases. Pain is widely present in the course of various diseases, as the saying goes, "Nine out of ten diseases involve pain." Pain is an agonizing symptom, acute pain is unbearable, such as splitting headaches, as if the eyes were about to fall out, the neck as if being pulled, the waist as if broken, the legs as if being kicked, turning and tossing, unable to sleep at night, and in severe cases, even leading to pain-induced syncope with cold limbs and weak pulse; chronic pain makes life unbearable, causing restlessness and anxiety, sitting or lying uncomfortably, resulting in unbearable physical and mental suffering. The occurrence of pain is the body's defensive response signal after suffering from some harmful stimulus, indicating that a part of the body's tissues, organs, viscera, or nerves is being attacked by pathogenic factors, leading to a struggle between the body's healthy Qi and the pathogenic Qi, and even resulting in functional disorders, poor blood and Qi circulation, and further. This book is divided into three parts. The first and second parts are the basic theories of Chinese and Western medicine related to acupuncture and moxibustion for pain relief. In terms of basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it includes Six Evils and Pain, Zang-Fu Organs and Pain, Internal Injury of Seven Emotions and Pain, Meridian Syndromes and Pain, and commonly used acupoints for pain relief. It discusses the mechanism of pain from the perspective of basic theoretical concepts, laying a theoretical foundation for syndrome differentiation and treatment based on acupuncture and moxibustion for pain relief. In terms of basic theories of modern medicine, it introduces neuroanatomical knowledge related to pain, conducting in-depth research from aspects such as peripheral nerve receptors, fiber conduction, and the structure and nuclear groups of the spinal cord, brainstem, mesencephalon, and cerebrum, as well as their relationship with pain. Regarding neuroactive substances and pain, it studies the relationship between classic neurotransmitters and pain, various neuropeptides and pain, and nitric oxide immediate-early genes c-fos and c-jun and pain. Based on research on morphology and function, it delves into the links between pain and neurophysiology, neuropathology, and the mechanism of acupuncture analgesia.
