The entire set consists of six volumes, with one volume for each grade. The book provides detailed analyses and explanations of the strokes, components, and structures of various characters.
How can one practice calligraphy effectively?
1. Master the correct pencil-holding technique. The distance between the tip of the pencil and the thumb, index, and middle fingers should be 2–3 cm, while the ring finger and little finger should press closely against the middle finger. The fingers should be firm but the palm should be relaxed—avoid clenching the fist.
2. Maintain a natural writing posture. Keep the head upright, chest straight (slightly leaning forward), and feet slightly together. The left hand should lightly support the paper, while the right hand holds the pencil.
3. Start from scratch (by tracing). In the initial stages, focus on tracing calligraphy. Compare the model characters in the book while writing, practice repeatedly, and evaluate your work against the examples after each session. Identify areas for improvement and correct them in subsequent practice. This process is crucial—only through continuous tracing and patient comparison can one accurately grasp the stroke techniques and structural principles of characters.
4. Cultivate patience and perseverance. Calligraphy cannot be mastered in a day or two. Only through sustained effort can one improve. It is recommended to read more about the stories and anecdotes of ancient calligraphers during practice and participate in various calligraphy competitions to inspire passion for the art.
