What is uterine hypertrophy?

Patient's question:

I have developed cervical hypertrophy. The doctor advised me to seek treatment as soon as possible. What are the risks if it is not treated? What are the risks of uterine hypertrophy?

Doctor's answer:

Hypertrophic uterus refers to a condition where the thickness of the uterine muscular layer is reduced by more than 0.5 cm, accompanied by varying degrees of uterine bleeding. Chronic uterine involution failure in multiparous women: In multiparous women, the fibrosis of elastic fibers in the uterine muscular layer between smooth muscles and around blood vessels leads to uterine hypertrophy. Ovarian dysfunction: Persistent estrogen stimulation can cause thickening of the uterine muscular layer. Clinically, functional uterine bleeding patients, especially those with longer durations, often exhibit varying degrees of uterine hypertrophy. Inflammation-induced: Chronic adnexitis, pelvic connective tissue inflammation, and chronic uterine myositis can cause fibrosis of collagen fibers in the uterine muscular layer, leading to uterine fibrosis. Pelvic congestion can cause fibrosis of the uterine connective tissue, which may result in uterine hypertrophy.
