Features: With the promulgation of the new "English Curriculum Standards," English teaching reform in secondary schools has advanced to a new stage, raising the requirements for students' knowledge, communication skills, cultural awareness, and other aspects to a new level. Extracurricular reading is no longer just an optional supplement to classroom teaching but has become an indispensable part of English learning. The "New Curriculum Standards" have set clear quantitative requirements for students' extracurricular reading and proposed a series of new objectives. To this end, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press has collaborated with Longman to compile this series, "FLTRP–Longman Graded Readers for Secondary School English: New Curriculum Encyclopedic Series." The purpose is to implement the teaching philosophy of the "New Curriculum Standards" into extracurricular reading, helping students achieve the various requirements set forth by the standards. The series is compiled under the guidance of the "New Curriculum Standards" and has the following main features:
1. In terms of overall design, it is written according to the "New Curriculum Standards" and is highly targeted; the number of books increases progressively across levels, fully meeting the reading needs of secondary school students at different stages.
2. In terms of material selection, it highlights individuality, choosing topics with a sense of the times and rich content based on the different reading interests of students at different ages, helping students expand their knowledge and develop cross-cultural communication awareness while completing the reading tasks set by the "New Curriculum Standards."
3. In terms of difficulty level, it balances the improvement of abilities with the cultivation of reading interest and confidence, creating a relaxed learning environment for students.
4. In terms of learning strategy guidance, it compiles reading skill guides for each book based on the requirements of the "New Curriculum Standards" for each level, guiding students to develop good learning habits.
5. In terms of exercise design after each unit, it emphasizes flexibility, openness, and participation, combining reading, speaking, and writing to stimulate students' imagination and creativity, helping them fully meet the various requirements of the "New Curriculum Standards."
