Features: Galileo was a great Italian physicist and astronomer, the father of modern science. He was born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. From a young age, he was diligent, intelligent, and had a wide range of interests, earning him the title of a "child prodigy." At the age of 17, he entered the University of Pisa to study medicine but was deeply passionate about mathematics and physics. After diligent self-study, he made numerous inventions and was appointed as a mathematics professor at the University of Pisa. Three years later, he moved to the University of Padua to teach, and eventually became a distinguished scientist at the court of Tuscany. Throughout his life, he advocated systematic observation and experimentation in the study of nature, becoming one of the founders of modern experimental science. Through his own experiments, he established the law of falling bodies, discovered the law of inertia, the law of resultant forces, the isochronism of pendulum vibrations, and the laws of projectile motion, becoming a pioneer in classical mechanics and experimental physics. Einstein once said, "Galileo's discoveries, as well as the scientific reasoning methods he employed, are among the greatest achievements in the history of human thought and mark the true beginning of physics." Galileo was the first person in the world to invent the telescope and use it to explore the secrets of the universe. He discovered sunspots, Jupiter's four moons—the Medicean Star Cluster, the phases of Venus, and the Milky Way as a galaxy composed of countless stars, earning him the title of the "Columbus of the Skies." His astronomical discoveries provided strong evidence for Copernicus's "heliocentric theory," but this also led to a conflict with the Pope, who was furious and sentenced him to life imprisonment. In prison in Rome, though already an old man, he continued his research in physics. Even after losing his sight, he still conducted scientific research with the help of his assistants. On January 9, 1642, he left this world in disgrace.
