Features: Nicolaus Copernicus was a great Polish astronomer and the founder of the "heliocentric theory" (also known as the "geocentric theory"). The "revolutionary discovery" of the "motion of celestial bodies" he revealed marked a great revolution in astronomy and propelled its rapid development. Later generations revered him as the "father of astronomy." Copernicus was born in the ancient city of Toruń in western Poland in 1473. From a young age, he was deeply interested in astronomy. Although his parents passed away early, under the meticulous guidance of his uncle, he studied mathematics, astronomy, law, and medicine at several universities in Poland and Italy, and even apprenticed under world-renowned astronomers. For decades, he devoted himself to diligent study, meticulous observation, and relentless pursuit. Through countless precise observations and calculations, Copernicus discovered that the Earth rotates on its own axis and, along with the five planets, revolves around the Sun, while the Moon revolves around the Earth. From this, he established the heliocentric theory (the "heliocentric theory") centered around the Sun and published the famous book On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres.
Copernicus's "heliocentric theory" was a masterpiece of philosophical thought, practical observation, and mathematical calculation, representing a significant contribution to science. His "heliocentric theory" severely undermined the feudal theocratic rule and led to cruel persecution by the Pope, who fiercely attacked his theory. However, none of this could stop Copernicus's relentless pursuit. His "heliocentric theory" brought a new dawn of enlightenment to the then-darkened field of astronomy, completely dismantling the erroneous geocentric system of Ptolemy, and liberating natural science from theology. On the afternoon of May 24, 1543, the great astronomer Copernicus clutched his book On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres and passed away. Copernicus showed us that the Sun is indeed the center of the universe.
