Features: The book primarily uses Pinyin for teaching, accompanied by Chinese characters and English translations. Each lesson consists of five main parts: text, vocabulary, grammar notes, expansion and association, and exercises. The text sentences are short, common, easy to learn, and easy to remember. Easy Chinese is an oral Chinese textbook specifically designed for foreigners living, working, or traveling in China. Its most prominent feature is its practicality. Based on the author's experience over the past decade in teaching Chinese and spreading Chinese culture to foreigners living in Shanghai—such as students, businesspeople, bankers, cultural workers, housewives, etc.—as well as many years of teaching Chinese abroad, this book aims to provide foreigners with assistance in quickly learning the daily expressions they need, so that they can eventually become more confident in mastering spoken Chinese and live smoothly and happily in China.
Easy Chinese is also, in a certain sense, a guidebook for living in Shanghai. From renting an apartment, finding a job, investing, studying, and seeking medical care to dining, traveling, exercising, and entertainment, as well as shopping for groceries, books, and clothes, language is the carrier of culture. While learning a language, one must also absorb cultural information. The more cultural knowledge one grasps, the deeper their understanding of the language. The cultural content in this textbook is richer than that of similar materials I have encountered.
