The Three Musketeers is Dumas' work from 1844. D'Artagnan, born in Gascony during the reign of Louis XIII, came to Paris to seek the musketeer captain Treville. There, he accepted dueling requests from the three famous musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis in Paris. When they were about to duel at the agreed location, the guards of Cardinal Richelieu arrived, intending to arrest the three musketeers. D'Artagnanly stood up for them and fought alongside them to repel the Cardinal's guards. From then on, the four knights, who became acquainted through their fight, embarked on a series of exciting struggles against the Cardinal's conspiracy and power. Cardinal Richelieu, who wanted to expel the Queen from the palace, conspired with Milady, a spy in England, to design various schemes, but each time they were foiled by D'Artagnan and the three musketeers. Set against the backdrop of France, this work presents the vitality of the knights, their loyalty to women, and their devotion to the king through the author's travels between France and England, as if in a serial. Dumas' innate imagination and the play-like structure of his novels made the work an attractive popular historical novel. His works have been adapted into films many times after publication.
