Features: The Complete Collection of Paintings by Chen Shaomei, Volume 1 and 2, includes over 400 works by the artist, published as a comprehensive collection. In his relatively short life, Chen Shaomei devoted himself wholeheartedly to studying and researching the techniques and principles of Chinese painting, particularly conducting scientific analysis and in-depth study of the "Northern School" painting style. He systematically grasped the profound essence of this tradition. His works excel in landscapes, figures, plum blossoms and bamboo, as well as flowers. He learned from tradition while emphasizing the expression of new vitality from ancient aesthetics, forming a distinctive style with a certain era's atmosphere and the artist's personal character. From the extant works, it is evident that his paintings possess both a solid foundation in tradition and innovative developments in his own craftsmanship. His works have always been cherished by connoisseurs and are preserved in major museums, art galleries, and art schools across the country.
On the journey of art, there are always some unexpected scenes and moods. They come unawares, just like the small paintings presented before you. The scenes in these small works are considered a very minor part of my artistic career, or perhaps just a fragment. How to accurately describe this batch of paintings? To be honest, even I cannot immediately put it into words. Let's temporarily call them "Realistic Landscapes." Because they can be said to represent my initial feelings about art, a direct and authentic record of reality. Like a hand pressing the shutter of a camera, capturing whatever looks beautiful. In fact, I have also taken beautiful scenes with a camera and then expressed them through another materialization method. The only difference is that in this process, the hustle and bustle of reality are omitted, leaving everything purely and tranquil. The tools are also simple—a knife and a few common colors.
