Features: This book has a peeling issue, so buyers who are sensitive to this should be cautious. Here is the repair method provided:
· Tools: An iron, preferably a non-steam setting if you have a steam iron at home.
· Main Method: 3D ironing, mainly used for repairing cracks in the book spine and deformation of the top and bottom of the book. It requires holding the book with one hand and the iron with the other, operating it in the air. Alternatively, you can place the book on the edge of a desk, holding it down with one hand while ironing with the other.
· Ironing Techniques: For cracks in the spine adhesive, iron the spine to soften and bond the adhesive. Since different back adhesives have different hardness levels, the heating time and frequency will vary. Some adhesives are soft and can melt with brief heating, while others are very hard and require repeated heating. During the heating intervals, you can take advantage of the heat to shape the adhesive, such as gently pressing the crack or the sides of the spine to ensure better bonding.
When ironing the spine, it may cause slight concavity. During the heating intervals, gently press the top of the book to make the spine slightly convex, forming a mild arc. This also helps with future flipping and prevents the book from bulging.
When ironing the spine, leave one millimeter unironed at the top and bottom to prevent the adhesive from melting and oozing out. If you must iron the top and bottom, do so with light pressure. If the adhesive slightly oozes out, trim it along the edges with scissors once it cools.
After ironing the spine adhesive, do not immediately open it to check if it has bonded. Wait until it completely cools before checking. Otherwise, not only will the bonding effect be poor, but it may also tear the newly bonded part open.
If the bond isn’t successful after the first attempt, open it after it cools, and if the crack is still visible, you’ll need to iron it again. Some hard adhesives may require two or three repeated repairs.
