About the Author: Yu Miao, a native of Beijing, graduated from the International College of China Agricultural University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics (Media Direction). In 2001, she studied at the University of Colorado in the USA, majoring in Communication and Media, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Since the age of 6, she has been writing diaries under the strict scolding of teachers and parents. At 14, her diaries were compiled into a book published by Guangdong Education Press, titled It's Not Easy Being a Kid. During her middle school years, she was a reporter for the Beijing Middle School Student News Agency, always bustling with energy while juggling heavy academic pressures and busy with interviews and writing. She endured greater pressure than her peers but enjoyed the happiness they couldn't experience. In college, she served as the publicity minister of the student union for two terms and edited the college magazine and newspaper, from topic planning to layout and proofreading, without ever slacking. Over the years, she has published over 50 articles in major newspapers and magazines, with two of her works included in The Best College Essays of China. At 21, she packed her bags to study in the USA but ultimately fell in love with the dream of "wandering the world," partly influenced by a man named Zong Fa, an American with green eyes, whose Chinese name is Xiao De. From then on, she traveled with a different perspective, realizing that life has many possibilities, and everyone can maximize their experiences to make life more colorful. David Youkey, an American, is known as Xiao De in this book. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, enjoys Marx, Nietzsche, and Eastern philosophy, and has taught at seven universities in the USA, China, Mongolia, and Nepal. Like the ancient Greek and Eastern philosophers, he loves traveling and dreams of becoming a nomadic philosopher. Xiao De says, "Money is used to buy interesting experiences. I don't need a luxurious home or fancy clothes, because these things don't bring me richer experiences." He climbs rocks, kayaks, treks in Nepal, and travels around the USA in a plane he built with his grandfather in their garage. For Xiao De, life without colorful experiences is like living in vain, because only by experiencing can one truly live.

It seems like a travelogue at first glance! Although it includes local customs, cultures, and travel insights, I think the two authors didn't realize at the time that they were not writing a travelogue but a lifestyle!
