To better promote Qingdao and provide tourists with a comprehensive, richly informative travel guidebook suitable for self-guided tours, as well as to offer tourism professionals an accurate and systematic travel guidebook detailing Qingdao's geographical environment, historical culture, socio-economic development, and tourist attractions, the author was invited by the Qingdao Municipal Tourism Bureau to begin compiling this book in 1999. During the writing process, field investigations were conducted for tourist attractions, and extensive historical, socio-economic, and natural geographical materials were reviewed. New content was added, and common past errors were corrected. In 2000, the book was published as the "Trial Edition of Qingdao Travel Guide" and distributed internally as the designated teaching material for Qingdao tour guides. Based on the teaching practices of the trial edition, further revisions and improvements were made using newly discovered historical materials and the development status of newly opened tourist attractions in Qingdao's districts and cities in recent years. This has made the book the most up-to-date and comprehensive travel cultural reader for promoting Qingdao to tourists.
