Features: Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan form is extensive, simple, structured, upright in body posture, harmonious in movements, light and steady. To further promote and popularize Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan and integrate it into competitive sports, in September 1988, the Martial Arts Research Institute of the National Sports Commission organized experts and professors such as Zhang Wenguang, Zhang Shan, Men Huifeng, and Li Bingci to create the Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan competition routine based on the traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. This routine standardized, quantified, and unified the practice, making it more suitable for competitive requirements.
Although Tai Chi Chuan is often described as "prioritizing spirit over form; it's not about external appearance but inner essence" and "focusing on intent rather than form," beginners should first focus on form, then intent. It is essential to ensure correct posture and maintain it throughout complex, interconnected movements to build a solid foundation, which is beneficial for gradual improvement in technique.
The progress in learning and practicing Tai Chi Chuan can be divided into three stages: Stage one builds a physical foundation; stage two strives for completeness and coordination; stage three emphasizes the integration of internal and external, and the harmony of body and spirit.
