Features: This book adheres to the "Basic Requirements for English Teaching in Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2000, closely aligns with the "Outline for the Practical English Test for Colleges (PRETCO)," and aims to comprehensively improve the English application skills of students in higher vocational and technical colleges, enabling them to adapt to the PRETCO exam. It summarizes key language points, provides answer guidance, and offers application skill training, fully reflecting the principle of integrating learning, application, and preparation. As a supplementary textbook for the main course of English in higher vocational and technical colleges, this book can better help students pass the PRETCO exam.
The "Practical English Test for Colleges: Test-Taking Strategies and Practice Tests (A)" is divided into two parts: Part One includes an introduction to the PRETCO exam and test-taking guidelines, as well as summaries of important language points; Part Two consists of 10 sets of practice tests with answers and explanations. Part One is further divided into five sections: Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary and Grammar Structure, Reading Comprehension, Translation, and Writing/Chinese-to-English Translation. Each section provides a comprehensive analysis of the PRETCO exam based on recent actual test questions, covering answer guidance, common mistakes made by examinees, and strategies for tackling the exam, supported by examples. The selected examples are mostly those prone to errors or confusion, making them highly practical and instructive. After analyzing the test-taking strategies, each section is followed by practical exercises.
Part Two includes 10 sets of A-level practice tests, which cover various types of questions and are forward-looking, offering strong guidance for examinees. To facilitate classroom teaching and support self-study, the answers are separated from the main text and provided in a separate, separately bound volume.
