Patient's question:
Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. What are the causes of abnormal vaginal discharge?Doctor's answer:
Leukorrhea refers to a liquid discharged from the female vagina, which normally serves as a lubricant and protects the vaginal health. When the color, quality, or quantity of leukorrhea becomes abnormal, it indicates the presence of a certain disease. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "dai xia" (leukorrhea) or "chi bai dai" (red and white leukorrhea). The causes and manifestations of abnormal leukorrhea are as follows:(1) Colorless, translucent, viscous leukorrhea: Often caused by the use of estrogen drugs or a weak constitution. Symptoms include normal appearance, excessive leukorrhea, accompanied by lower back pain and fatigue.
(2) Purulent leukorrhea: Usually caused by infections with pus-producing bacteria, such as trichomoniasis, chronic cervicitis, senile vaginitis, endometritis, intrauterine effusion, or vaginal foreign bodies. It appears yellow or yellow-green and has a foul odor.
(3) Cheesy-like leukorrhea: Caused by candidal vaginitis, accompanied by itching of the external genitalia.
