Journal of History, founded in 1954, is one of the earliest philosophy and social science journals established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. In half a century, Journal of History has published approximately 4,000 articles, representing and reflecting the crystallization of achievements by several generations of historians in the new China. Its authors range from the renowned historical giants like Guo Moruo, who had already gained fame in the mid-20th century, to the emerging scholars who began to shine in the new century, embodying the highest level and evolutionary path of Chinese historical studies over the past fifty years. Therefore, in terms of the development and evolution of academic history, the fifty years of Journal of History can be seen as a microcosm of the development of historical studies in the new China. To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Journal of History, we have compiled this series of books.
