Features: Single people have freedom in terms of emotions, finances, and activities, but they must also face the problems of having no one to share their feelings with, seek comfort from, or combat loneliness. This is not just about singles as defined by marriage; the state of being "alone" is something everyone encounters, appearing in various forms, and is an extremely important life situation. This book not only reviews historical hermits and the lonely but also explores the essence, attitudes, and ways of dealing with solo living in the context of singlehood and the trend of individualization in society. It also examines the pros and cons of choosing to be "alone" between love and marriage.
Reading is a form of sustenance for the brain. Since the 21st century, the "diet" of reading has undergone both qualitative and quantitative changes! The Net and Books series, after four years of planning, gathers authors from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, as well as international contributors, to propose—passion for reading and advocacy for it! We can regard reading as a form of sustenance for the brain, where reading is the nourishment supplied to the brain.
This book takes the six-thousand-year history and development of reading as its theme, from images to text, such as the carvings on the walls of Angkor Wat to Gutenberg's movable type printing; and then from text back to images, such as the use of the World Wide Web (WWW). All of these are forms of reading. Additionally, it introduces seven individuals related to the internet, four perspectives on books, famous historical figures' reading locations, and interviews with Jia Mi and Xie Chun-de.
The Solitary One not only reviews historical hermits and the lonely but also, in the face of the social trends of singlehood and individualization, explores the essence, attitudes, and ways of dealing with solo living, as well as the pros and cons of choosing to be "alone" between love and marriage.
