China and Historical Capitalism

Author: (Canada) Bo Zhengmin

Publish Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This book itself has a long and complex history. From the perspective of European capitalist development, it addresses the original concept of interpreting China from both Europe and China. This idea is inherited from Joseph Needham. Needham, through his research achievements in the history of Chinese science and technology, affirmed China's contributions to the world's scientific knowledge and scientific culture. In his view, as capitalism fully developed, Europe had already undergone social, economic, and intellectual transformations, while China had not experienced these changes. The main reason for this was the various factors arising from the organization of material life, a problem that scholars are only beginning to distinguish today. This book attempts to describe the trajectory of knowledge: it begins with the uniqueness of Europe and ends with the particularity of China. When embarking on the winding journey of this book, we did not know how long it would take to complete this journey or the friendships that would be formed along the way.
