Patient's question:
I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried about it affecting my fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. What should I do if my menstrual flow is light? How can it be treated?Doctor's answer:
A normal menstrual cycle, with a significant increase in the amount of menstrual blood and a shorter duration of menstruation, is referred to as hypomenorrhea, or menstrual volume deficiency and stagnation. The main mechanism is based on insufficient yin blood, with the blood sea being relatively empty, and a deficiency in the uterine contents. Therefore, during menstruation, there is less blood flow. The primary causes are: first, congenital deficiency, with insufficient menstrual resources and reduced secretion or an abnormally small uterus. Second, postnatal factors, such as excessive blood loss after severe illness or physical weakness, leading to a significant deficiency in yin blood, severe impairment of the heart and spleen, insufficient transformation of nutrients, and the inability to nourish innate essence. This results in insufficient blood essence and an empty blood sea. In clinical diagnosis, it is relatively common to see cases caused by trauma from procedures like D&C (dilation and curettage) or miscarriage, leading to insufficiency of the liver and kidneys and a massive deficiency of yin blood. Another cause is long-term use of hormone-containing medications, such as prolonged use of birth control pills.
