The new "English Curriculum Standards" (abbreviated as "New Curriculum Standards") place higher demands on students' knowledge, communicative competence, cultural awareness, and other aspects. Extracurricular reading has become an important component of English learning. Based on a collaboration between the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLP) and Longman, the "SFLP–Longman Secondary English Graded Readers: New Curriculum Standards Encyclopedic Series" has been developed to incorporate the teaching philosophy of the "New Curriculum Standards" into extracurricular reading, helping students meet the requirements set forth by the "New Curriculum Standards."
· Guided by the "New Curriculum Standards," the series is designed to meet the requirements of levels 3-9 of the "New Curriculum Standards," making it suitable for students at all stages of secondary education.
· The entire series is divided into four levels, with a total of 80 volumes. The number of volumes increases progressively at each level, fully satisfying the reading volume requirements for students at different levels as stipulated by the "New Curriculum Standards."
· The selected materials reflect a sense of modernity, respect the varying reading interests of students at different stages, and are rich in content with illustrations, helping to broaden knowledge and cultivate cross-cultural communication awareness.
· Reading skill guides are written for each volume based on the requirements of the "New Curriculum Standards," focusing on guiding students' learning strategies.
· The exercises at the end of each unit are designed to be open-ended and flexible, encouraging students to think critically, fostering creativity, improving language proficiency, and comprehensively achieving the goals of the "New Curriculum Standards."
