Features: The layout of clerical script is basically the same as other scripts in terms of style. Style is the most convenient form for classifying calligraphy works, so the chapters of this book are still organized by style after revision. The revised edition continues to borrow Mr. Yang Zaichun's Clerical Script Layout, which has been published for ten years and has sold over 100,000 copies, receiving great love from readers and friends in the calligraphy world. However, when reviewing the flawed work from ten years ago, I deeply felt its immaturity and superficiality. Mr. Yang Zaichun suggested revising and republishing this book, so I have selected over 100 works from recent years to include in it, accounting for about 80% of the book. Although I still feel there are many flaws, I hope to present it to readers in a new form, seeking criticism and guidance.
The layout, brushwork, and structure of calligraphy are all fundamental artistic languages and forms in calligraphy creation. We should skillfully use formal beauty principles such as order, uniformity, symmetry, proportion, rhythm, and unity to refine artistic language and study creation. Furthermore, we must seek the artistic beauty, artistic style, and artistic expressiveness of calligraphy. Like other literary and artistic works, calligraphy possesses the essence of beauty and also has aesthetic forms such as sublimity, elegance, comedy, and tragedy. The creation of clerical script works should also pursue this goal.
Outstanding calligraphy works from various dynasties in China have built the magnificent hall of calligraphy art with their rich artistic language, formal beauty, and aesthetic forms. As successors, we should strive tirelessly to uphold inheritance and innovation, seeking to live up to the demands of the new era.
