Features: The Three Gorges Project is the largest water conservancy project in the world today. In the world, no river or river system can match the Yangtze River Three Gorges in possessing a 200-kilometer-long landscape gallery and a 7,000-year cultural heritage. Before the Three Gorges Project was constructed, when people mentioned the Three Gorges, they would think of Li Bai's timeless poem: "Leaving Baidi in the morning clouds, a thousand miles to Jiangling can be reached in a day. The monkeys' cries on both banks don't cease as the light boat sails past ten thousand mountains." Today, when people talk about the Yangtze River Three Gorges, they think of Mao Zedong's famous verse: "Build stone walls along the West River, cut off the mist and rain of Wu Mountain, and create a level lake in the high gorges. The goddess should be unharmed, but she would be amazed at the world's transformation." The construction of the magnificent Three Gorges Project, the transformation of the natural river channel in the Three Gorges section, and the development of the hydrological resources of the Yangtze River Three Gorges to benefit the Chinese people have been the dream of several generations of Chinese leaders and water conservancy experts. With the completion of the Three Gorges Project, the dream has become a reality. At the critical point where the Three Gorges undergo a monumental transformation from river to lake, we enter, we record, and we witness. What is about to disappear, we leave behind their images; what is happening, we document their process; what is yet to come, we anticipate with all readers and offer our deepest blessings. This book, in a vivid and illustrated form, presents our records to you, takes you into the magnificent Three Gorges Project, and introduces the impact of the Three Gorges Project on the natural scenery and cultural relics of the Three Gorges.
