Features: This book is the final outcome of the Social Science Planning Project of the Ministry of Education. It introduces the discussions of scholars from ancient and modern times on good laws and their standards, and specifically discusses the value standards, formation standards, procedural standards of good laws, as well as the issues of good laws and the benign transformation of law in China's rule-of-law process. It holds that value rationality is the core element of good laws, normative rationality is the manifestation of their formation, and procedural legitimacy is the guarantee for their operation. Good laws are not only a timeless major topic in legal theory but also a highly important practical issue in economic and social development, and even a fundamental prerequisite for China to advance the rule of law. Therefore, researching this issue is of great significance and far-reaching impact. Good laws are catalysts for social development and midwives for social change. Social development is gradual, meaning that existing social systems are further perfected through reform to drive progress; it can also be abrupt, meaning that existing social systems are fundamentally transformed through revolution to advance history. However, this is not the beginning of revolution but rather a necessary consequence after its success.
