What is the best way to deal with gestational diabetes?

Patient's question:

I am very scared when this happens. I often have lower abdominal pain and don't know how to solve it, so I came here to consult. What is the best way to deal with gestational diabetes?

Doctor's answer:

After early pregnancy, if various degrees of impaired glucose tolerance or overt diabetes are detected, it can be considered gestational diabetes regardless of whether insulin is required or only dietary treatment is used, or how long this condition persists during labor. Mild cases can be managed by a nutritionist, starting with dietary control, followed by blood tests. If fasting blood glucose remains greater than 105 mg/dL and post-meal 2-hour blood glucose is greater than 120 mg/dL, insulin should be administered in conjunction. The goal is to control blood glucose levels as follows: fasting 60–90 mg/dL (measured after an 8-hour fast), pre-meal 60–105 mg/dL, post-meal 1 hour <140 mg/dL, and post-meal 2 hours <120 mg/dL. It is also recommended to have small, frequent meals and a bedtime snack.
