Features: To implement the "Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China," control the emission of automotive pollutants, and improve ambient air quality, this standard has been formulated. The technical content of this standard has been modified based on the main technical provisions of the ECER20/03 regulation, which was effective on April 20, 1986, by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the approval of visible exhaust emissions from compression-ignition engine vehicles. For the emission limits and measurement methods of in-use vehicle free acceleration tests, the relevant provisions of Article 8.2.2 of the European Community Commission Directive 96/96/EC on visible exhaust emissions from compression-ignition engine vehicles were referenced, and Appendix I, "Free Acceleration Test for In-Use Vehicles—Non-Transparency Smoke Method," has been added. This standard specifies the emission limits and measurement methods for the exhaust smoke of compression-ignition engines and compression-ignition engine vehicles. This standard applies to the emission of exhaust smoke from compression-ignition engines, including engine type approval and production consistency inspection. The emission of exhaust smoke from compression-ignition engine vehicles includes new vehicle type approval and production consistency inspection, as well as testing of newly produced vehicles and in-use vehicles. This standard applies to in-use vehicles manufactured according to the original GB 14761.6-93 "Standard for Free Acceleration Smoke Emissions of Diesel Vehicles." The measurement method is the same as the Bosch smoke method specified in the original GB/T 3846-93 "Measurement Method for Free Acceleration Smoke of Diesel Vehicles," and the corresponding emission limits and measurement methods are included in this standard. This standard also applies to light-duty vehicles equipped with compression-ignition engines that meet the pollutant emission standards of GB 18352. This standard does not apply to low-speed cargo vehicles and three-wheeled vehicles.
