What are the symptoms of trichomoniasis?

Patient's question:

Recently, I noticed that the discharge is thick, cloudy, and has an odor. After examination, it was found to be trichomoniasis. What are the symptoms of trichomoniasis?

Doctor's answer:

After suffering from trichomoniasis, the most common symptom is an increase in vaginal discharge. During the acute phase, a large amount of discharge may soak through underwear, requiring patients to frequently use sanitary pads. The discharge is yellowish-green, purulent, and has a special odor. The itching of the external genitalia is less pronounced than that caused by candidiasis. It is often accompanied by a burning sensation in the external genitalia, pain during intercourse, and urinary symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and dysuria. Gynecological examination reveals: the external genitalia may have scratch marks, congestion and edema of the labia minora, and the vaginal orifice may be filled with bloody edema. Due to the excessive discharge, thin purulent discharge is commonly seen flowing out from the vaginal orifice.
