Features: The informatization of social life and economic globalization have made English increasingly prominent. As times evolve and China progresses, English has become the most widely used language in all aspects of human life, serving as a vital carrier of information. For a modern person, not knowing English is unimaginable. To keep pace with the times and meet the growing demands of English teaching and learning in China's middle and senior schools, we have meticulously compiled the Comprehensive English-Chinese Dictionary. This dictionary is characterized by the following features:
1. Up-to-date content, keeping pace with the times. The most prominent feature of this dictionary is its novelty. Both its content and layout are fresh. During the compilation process, we referred to over 30 authoritative English reference books from domestic and international sources, gathering the latest vocabulary that reflects contemporary developments to the greatest extent possible.
2. Extensive vocabulary. This dictionary is compiled based on the New Middle School English Teaching Syllabus and the Revised College English Teaching Syllabus. On the original foundation, we have appropriately added some vocabulary for the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6), making it suitable for (widespread) intermediate and advanced English learners.
3. Rich content, covering a broad scope. This dictionary includes vocabulary related to politics, economy, culture, military, technology (computers), and sports. It also provides numerous synonyms and antonym (discernment), facilitating the user's understanding and mastery by enabling generalization and in-depth comprehension. Additionally, the dictionary features selected illustrations that complement the content, helping users better understand and memorize the related vocabulary through vivid visuals.
The dictionary collects over 18,000 English entries, including derivatives, compound words, phrases, and idioms, bringing the total number of words to over 38,000. The entire volume contains approximately 1.8 million words.
In the appendix, the dictionary includes seven additional sections: an irregular verbs table, a list of common English names, a list of common world geographical names, a table of mathematical expressions, a table of units of measurement, a table of British and American festivals, and a table for the twelve zodiac signs. These appendices are highly helpful for English learners and mastering fundamental English knowledge.
