Features: Based on the authors' frontline teaching experience in preparing senior high school students for the English proficiency test, we have compiled 25 sets of timed training exercises for junior high school English reading comprehension, modeled after the original questions of the English middle school entrance exam. Each set of exercises includes 1 cloze test and 4 reading comprehension passages. The reason for combining cloze tests and reading comprehension exercises is that these two are the main question types in English exams that assess reading ability, and they are also the most challenging parts for many students. Additionally, they account for the largest proportion of the English exam score in senior high school entrance exams. Therefore, the authors believe that these two components should not be trained separately. The exercises are arranged from easy to difficult throughout the book, with each set recommended to be completed within 45 minutes. Students can set fixed times each week to conduct the training according to their own circumstances. During training, record the start and end times, and after completing the exercises, summarize the results, calculate the time taken, and determine the accuracy rate. After a period of training, evaluate whether your English reading ability has improved and by how much. Whether the time taken decreases or the accuracy rate improves, it is considered progress. Moreover, as the exercises progress, the difficulty level also increases, and students should take this into account when assessing their performance.
According to the difficulty coefficient regulations for reading passages in the new English curriculum standards, the difficulty coefficient of each article is listed at the end for reference. Among them: 70-80 indicates a relatively difficult reading level; 80-90 indicates an easy-to-read level; and 90-100 indicates a very easy reading level. The higher the difficulty coefficient, the simpler the article, but this does not necessarily mean that the questions associated with the article are easy. At the end of each set of exercises, answers and explanations are provided. Additionally, at the beginning of the book, specific techniques for solving cloze tests and reading comprehension questions are thoroughly explained. It is hoped that students will carefully reflect and summarize while reading this book, and through extensive practice, achieve proficiency in applying these techniques.
