What methods are most effective in treating leukoplakia of the vulva?

Patient's question:

I am not married yet. Recently, I went for a physical examination and was told that I have leukoplakia of the vulva. Is this disease serious? Will it affect my future pregnancy? Please ask: What methods are most effective for treating leukoplakia of the vulva?

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal leukoplakia is caused by epidermal thickening due to inflammation, loss of pigment in the basal epidermal layer, and increased superficial dermal blood vessels, leading to the fading or whitening of the vaginal skin or mucosa. Since "vaginal leukoplakia" is a stubborn condition, long-term treatment and regular follow-up are necessary. Follow-up intervals of 3 to 6 months are recommended. With persistent treatment, relatively satisfactory results can generally be achieved. Medications such as vitamin supplements can be taken. If vaginal itching is severe and interferes with deep sleep, appropriate sedatives may be prescribed. Locally, 1% hydrocortisone and 1–2% testosterone cream can be applied. This treatment should be maintained for 6–8 weeks, with 3–4 applications per day.
