Patient's question:
Right ovarian cyst, had surgery last year, and it came back a few days ago. I'm very worried, afraid it might be something bad. What should I do if it's confirmed to be an ovarian cyst?Doctor's answer:
Hello, ovarian cysts can be physiological (meaning they are normal fluctuations in the menstrual cycle that can naturally disappear) or pathological (formed due to disease). Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and additional treatment. For women of reproductive age, after discovering an ovarian cyst, the next course of action depends on the nature of the cyst. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. If MRI indicates that the cyst is anechoic (without echoes) and non-segmented, it is advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a repeat MRI should be performed. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered for resolution. It is recommended that most other cysts are pathological and should be surgically diagnosed.
