Features: Dedicated to my brother unit in the Liberation War, who with their lives and blood, forged a chapter of tragic grandeur in the twilight of the People's Republic. Iron currents of fire, vast seas of rivers, blood-red snow-white, reflecting the ever-changing human nature. I saw the communication trenches piled with enemy corpses, many missing limbs, headless bodies, drenched in blood, wrapped in tattered uniforms, covering a pile of exploded meat. I could almost hear their screams as they fell, a thick stench of blood and gore choked me, and I could hardly take a step. The bodies lying across the communication trenches seemed less like human remains and more like a pile of meat from a meat grinder. The wounded who hadn’t yet lost consciousness were still screaming beneath the pile of "meat." I saw the troops advancing into the breakthrough point stepping over the soft, mushy corpses, some oozing streams of yellow fluid, with no one caring whether the people beneath their feet were alive or dead. The wounded beneath the corpses were still screaming, and the soldiers continued to trudge over them. Some soldiers were even crushed to death. The author of this book, as a publicity officer and battlefield photojournalist, personally experienced the four years of the Liberation War. The novel is written from the perspective of an eyewitness, capturing moments of death that became timeless, the passionate love between a hot-blooded man and a tender woman, and even the sordid struggle for power and the silent sorrow of heroes. Remember, dear people, don’t cry. This is war!
