Features: The third edition of this book is still revised by Professor Luo Chengqin of the Mathematics Department at Tongji University. In this revision, second- and third-order determinants have been added to Chapter 1; a small amount of practical background content about matrices and their operations has been added to Chapter 2; and the theoretical system of Chapters 3 and 4 has been completely replaced. The new Chapter 3 introduces elementary row operations and the concept of rank, and then solves the problem of solving systems of linear equations. The new Chapter 4 discusses the linear dependence of vector sets. Due to the theoretical foundations of matrices and linear equations, this discussion has been greatly simplified. Chapters 5 and 6 have also been strengthened to varying degrees in terms of the formulation and proof of theorems, and some exercises have been added or modified to make this textbook more aligned with basic requirements and more suitable for teaching. The content of this book includes six chapters: determinants, matrices and their operations, elementary row operations of matrices and linear equations, the linear dependence of vector sets, similar matrices and quadratic forms, and linear spaces and linear transformations, with answers to exercises at the end of the book. This book can be used by all majors in higher industrial colleges and is also suitable for reading by science and technology workers.
