The love written by Ms. Bing Xin is a love that transcends passion, a mother's compassion, and a child's purity. In the author's works, it is a fundamental moral, a desire for peace. — Shen Congwen
In the past, we were all lonely children. From her works, we have received much warmth and comfort. We have learned to love the stars and the sea, and from those kind and beautiful words, we have warmed our hearts, forever lost in maternal love. I would like to present this Collected Works of Bing Xin as a New Year gift to them, hoping that this book, which has once soothed the hearts of children, can also bring them a little warmth on cold nights and in lonely dreams. — Ba Jin
When I was in primary school, three books deeply moved me. One was The School of Love written by an Italian author, the most touching part of which is A Journey of Six Thousand Li to Find My Mother. Another was Pinocchio, whose fate made me deeply concerned. The third was the Complete Works of Bing Xin published by Beishu Bookstore. Although I have not read many books of this kind since I grew up, they have indeed sown the seeds of kindness, love, and aspiration in my heart. — Wang Meng
Any reader who has read her articles, even just a few, and anyone who has spoken with her, even for just a few minutes, will be deeply moved by her heart. — Shu Yi
Bing Xin’s Wit and Wisdom: This fiery love force moves this weary world step by step toward the light! With my love, I have everything! Love is on the right, compassion is on the left. Walking by the roadside of life, sowing seeds and blooming flowers at every turn, adorning this long path with fragrant blossoms. Mother! You are the lotus leaf, I am the lotus. When the rain of the heart comes, who is the shade for me under the open sky but you?
Bing Xin was an outstanding female writer in 20th-century China. Starting from the May Fourth Movement in 1919, she engaged in new literary activities and, over an eighty-year literary career, created a large number of essays, poems, and novels, achieving remarkable accomplishments. Bing Xin’s works, with their unique style, have been beloved by a wide readership and have had a broad and profound influence. Particularly in the field of children’s literature, she was one of the earliest writers to create children’s literature alongside Mr. Ye Shengtao, becoming a pioneer and foundational figure in modern Chinese children’s literature. She holds a position in both Chinese and world children’s literature history. To allow generations of young readers and the general public to read and appreciate Bing Xin’s children’s literature, we have compiled and published this Complete Works of Bing Xin’s Children’s Literature. The collection is divided into two volumes: the first volume contains essays, while the second contains poems and short stories. The complete collection includes 75 works.
Bing Xin’s literary achievements are multifaceted. In the selection process, we carefully read and appreciated the works, including all those written for and suitable for children, and included them in this book. All works included in this book are presented in their original form, with only minor corrections to individual words and phrases and annotations to some content. To provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of Bing Xin’s contributions and achievements, we have also compiled a Brief Chronology of Bing Xin’s Life and appended it at the end of the book.
