How should vulvar leukoplakia be treated better?

Patient's question:

At first, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but recently, during intimacy with my husband, I've found it very dry, and I often feel itchy externally. After checking, it was diagnosed as leukoplakia of the vulva. I'm not very familiar with this condition. Could you please tell me how to treat leukoplakia of the vulva better?

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal leukoplakia is a type of vaginal dystrophy. In clinical diagnosis, it is also known as non-neoplastic intraepithelial inflammation of the vagina. Its clinical diagnostic features include itching, stinging, or burning sensation in the vagina, and difficulty or pain during intercourse when the vagina is atrophic. Many vaginal inflammatory conditions, such as leukoplakia, leukoplakic vulvitis, vaginal xerosis, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, hypertrophic vulvitis, and neurodermatitis, fall into this category. It is recommended to use topical moisturizing creams or vitamin A acid cream for treatment. Laser therapy can be tested, or 2% hydrocortisone ointment can be used to reduce swelling and relieve pain. Alternatively, 2% testosterone propionate cod liver oil ointment can be applied.
