Early prevention and treatment of vulvar leukoplakia

Patient's question:

At first, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but recently, during intimacy with my husband, I've noticed dryness, and I've also been feeling itchy externally. After a check-up, they said it's leukoplakia of the vulva. I'm not very familiar with this condition. Could you please ask: How to prevent and treat vulvar leukoplakia in its early stages?

Doctor's answer:

More common in postmenopausal women, it primarily manifests as external itching, mainly affecting the labia majora, interlabial sulci, and posterior labial commissure. Treatment: Maintain clean and dry external genital skin at all times, discontinue the use of soap or other irritating medications for washing, prevent scratching with hands, avoid spicy or allergenic foods, wear loose and breathable clothing to prevent local dampness, etc. Medications that can be used include Hydrocortisone cream, Triamcinolone cream, and Hydrocortisone cream. For cases that do not respond to long-term treatment, surgery may be considered. Laser treatment can also be used. For the treatment of lichen sclerosus (based on atrophy and thinning of the skin of the external genitalia and perianal area).
