Can a woman still get pregnant after a hysterectomy?

Patient's question:

28 years old, my wife was discovered to have uterine cysts last year. A few months ago, she had a hysterectomy at a local hospital, but it wasn't a complete removal—only about half of it was taken out. I am the only child in the family, and it's essential for me to have children. But can she still get pregnant after having her uterus removed?

Doctor's answer:

Will get pregnant but cannot bear children. Hysterectomy is required for breastfeeding. Normal fertilization occurs in the fallopian tubes, and then the fertilized egg gradually moves to the uterus for implantation, followed by growth and development. If the uterus is removed, the fertilized egg in the fallopian tube cannot move quickly to the uterus (as it has been removed), so the fertilized egg will remain in the fallopian tube or be expelled into the abdominal cavity to implant on the omentum. These are all ectopic pregnancies, which can lead to severe bleeding and life-threatening injuries.
