Globalization and Contemporary Society

Publishing Date: 2002-10-01
Features: The pace of globalization has been advancing steadily, moving from the distant margins of history and space to our very presence, placing humanity in the midst of it and making us, consciously or unconsciously, a fresh challenge in contemporary human society. From the perspective of historical development and changing trends, globalization is an inevitable tendency in the progress of human society. Globalization space and globalization time have become the primary dimensions in measuring the social spatiotemporal structure, to the extent that our lifestyles, modes of thinking, and even the very state of our lives must be truly and richly realized within the historical, realistic, and future context outlined by globalization. To discard reflection on the overall survival mode of real human society in the face of globalization, or merely to apply it as a conceptual term in specific social science fields such as economics, law, and political science without deeply considering its "fundamental" impact on the entire society, will leave us lost and unable to act when faced with variously different globalized viewpoints and actions. The thesis of this book, as intended by the author, is to explore the various new social phenomena triggered by globalization and to propose our perspectives on how to promote social progress through social management and how social sciences can shoulder the sacred "mission" under the backdrop of globalization.
