Does bamboo shoot promote or reduce milk production?

Patient's question:

My wife has been breastfeeding since giving birth to our baby, and it's been almost a month now. Her milk supply has been insufficient. My friend told me that eating bamboo shoots can help boost milk production, but the elders say that bamboo shoots should not be eaten recklessly, as they can cause milk to return. I'm wondering if bamboo shoots are for boosting milk production or for reducing milk production?

Doctor's answer:

Bamboo shoots are not beneficial for breast milk. Bamboo shoots are considered slightly cold in nature and have the effects of nourishing yin, cooling blood, clearing heat, resolving phlegm, promoting diuresis, regulating bowel movements, and aiding digestion. They provide no help in lactation stimulation or weaning. You can eat more pigeon meat, which is rich in acid and has a good effect on weaning. Additionally, you can drink old hen soup. Old hen soup contains certain androgens, and drinking it can enhance estrogen levels in the blood, which may help with weaning.
