Will sperm leak out prematurely

Patient's question:

After cohabitation, sometimes sperm may leak out in the middle of the night, and sometimes it may also leak out when going to the toilet the next morning. What is the reason for this?

Doctor's answer:

After ejaculation, due to gravity, semen will flow out of the vagina quickly. During this process, some sperm have already separated from the seminal fluid and are dispersed in the vagina and cervical canal, continuing their journey. This is a normal phenomenon.
It is normal for semen to flow out after intercourse. Along with the seminal fluid, there may also be abnormal and non-viable sperm, as well as fluid produced in the female reproductive tract during sexual arousal. However, to ensure as many sperm as possible enter the cervix, it is recommended to elevate the hips after intercourse to prevent premature leakage of semen from the vagina, which could affect the chances of conception.
