Will an egg follicle of 12x10mm lead to pregnancy?

Patient's question:

I've been married for two years. In the first year, I didn't have a child due to work reasons. This year, I wanted to have a child, but haven't been able to get pregnant. When I went to the hospital for an ultrasound, it showed one follicle measuring 12 by 10. Is a 12 by 10 follicle an dominant follicle?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, after the tenth day of the menstrual cycle, if ultrasound monitoring shows an egg follicle larger than 10 mm but not exceeding 18 mm, we refer to such a follicle as a dominant follicle. During the first half of the menstrual cycle, also known as the follicular phase, several follicles typically develop successively. We identify the largest and most mature follicle as the dominant follicle. After the mature follicle ruptures, it maintains the ability to be fertilized for approximately 1-2 days. Please be prepared for intercourse.
