Why can many eggs be retrieved?

Patient's question:

Because I have been preparing to have a child and haven't had a baby yet, I want to do IVF. However, I'm not very familiar with this area. I'd like to ask why it's possible to retrieve many eggs?

Doctor's answer:

When we perform in vitro fertilization, we need to undergo ovulation induction treatment. Ovulation induction treatment starts on the fifth day of the menstrual cycle, and several follicles may mature, allowing for egg retrieval. Generally, 2 to 3 embryos are transferred because it is not guaranteed that each embryo will successfully implant and result in pregnancy, so more are retrieved. It is recommended to enhance nutrition during pregnancy and maintain a balanced diet of meat and vegetables. Monitor the follicles to see if the ovaries are releasing mature follicles. If the follicles do not develop, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) can be injected to promote follicular development.
