How to correct inverted nipples

Patient's question:

I am 26 years old, female. Recently while taking a bath, I noticed that my nipples seem to be slightly protruding outwards. My friend said it might be inverted nipples. How can inverted nipples be corrected?

Doctor's answer:

There are mainly two methods for correcting nipple inversion: one is relatively conservative, and the other is surgical. The relatively conservative method involves placing an external fixation frame on the surface of the breast. This frame exerts a sustained pull on the nipple. The duration of this pull is approximately six months, allowing the milk ducts to naturally extend, which then corrects the nipple inversion deformity.
The second method is surgical. We achieve this by severing the ducts to remove the root cause of the nipple inversion. Alternatively, we can use multiple sutures or flap support to elevate the tissue below the nipple and fix it in place, thereby correcting the nipple inversion as well.
