Features: This textbook is a national-level planning textbook for the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" of general higher education. It is based on the third edition, which won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the First Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award. Minor revisions have been made while maintaining the original style and characteristics of the book. The entire book is divided into two volumes, totaling 18 chapters. Volume I includes the basic content of the Mechanics of Materials course, including: Introduction, Tension, Compression, and Shear, Torsion, Bending Internal Forces, Bending Stress, Bending Deformation, Stress and Strain Analysis, Strength Theory, Combined Deformation, Column Stability, Dynamic Loads, Cyclic Stress, and Geometric Properties of Plane Figures, etc. Volume II includes more in-depth content of the Mechanics of Materials course, including: Several Supplementary Problems of Bending, Energy Methods, Indeterminate Structures, Plane Curved Bars, Thick-Walled Cylinders and Rotating Disks, Matrix Displacement Method, and Plastic Deformation of Bars, etc. This textbook can be used as a teaching material for undergraduate engineering majors in higher education institutions.
Liu Hongwen's Experimental Mechanics of Materials (Second Edition) can be used as a companion to this textbook. The Study Guide for Mechanics of Materials, published alongside this book, can be used by students for review, problem-solving, and by teachers for lesson preparation.
