Features: The "China Urban Development Report (2003-2004)" is the collective achievement of dozens of experts. The entire report is divided into 5 parts and 21 chapters, with approximately 300 tables and figures. Under the guidance of the Scientific Development Concept, it focuses on exploring how Chinese urbanization implements the fundamental thinking of coordinated urban-rural development. Over the past 50 years, China's "dual-track" social structure has become a major institutional and structural barrier affecting the country's overall development and the resolution of the "three rural issues." Currently, nationwide discussions on how to understand the strategic transformation of urbanization in the new stage—implementing urban support for rural areas, industrial support for agriculture, narrowing the urban-rural gap, and achieving social equity—the report attempts to provide a comprehensive and systematic answer. The report examines aspects of Chinese urbanization in coordinated urban-rural development, including food security, land management, employment issues, urban development, and regional economic integration, proposing new research findings. The report inherits the characteristics of quantitative analysis and dynamic evaluation, conducting over 100 billion data calculations, evaluating each of the 50 representative cities nationwide to determine their respective comparative advantages and disadvantages.
