Ancient Chinese Common Literary Style Code Reader -- Qu

Author: Lü Shukun
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-01-01
Features: This book, in the Part of the genre of qu, does not only discuss sanqu without mentioning jucu, but instead introduces Song and Yuan Nanxi, Yuan and Ming Zaju, Ming and Qing Chuanqi, xiaoling, and quatu one by one, so that readers can understand the full picture of qu and the inherent connections and differences between the various forms. The second part, Classic Sanqu Works, as the name implies, only features sanqu—xiaoling and quatu—without including quci from jucu. This is mainly because the quci of jucu are constrained by plot and characters, making it difficult to select just one or two quci. Generally, it is more appropriate to choose a set of quci, which is not feasible within the scope of this book. To make up for this shortcoming, the editor intentionally mentions some excellent quci as examples when discussing a zaju or chuanqi in the Part of the genre of qu, and includes them in the book for readers to appreciate. This will naturally be evident when readers open the book.
