Features: Maxillofacial Prosthetics is a discipline that studies and utilizes artificial materials to repair defects of the maxillofacial region, belonging to the branch of oral rehabilitation. Domestic and international oral rehabilitation scholars have conducted extensive research in this field, forming a series of clinical rehabilitation techniques that have significantly improved the level of maxillofacial defect repair. Particularly in Western countries, an independent discipline of maxillofacial prosthetics has now been established, along with multiple specialized journals. In the past decade, with the emergence and application of a series of new technologies and materials, maxillofacial prosthetics has made substantial progress, achieving a level of realism in defect repair and effectively restoring patients' functions and appearance. Due to various reasons, the repair of maxillofacial defects in China has lagged behind the development of maxillofacial prosthetics abroad. To address this situation, the author, based on over a decade of clinical experience and research, has extensively absorbed advanced maxillofacial defect repair techniques from abroad. After seven years of effort, he has completed this specialized book on maxillofacial defect repair in China, providing a detailed introduction to the basic knowledge, diagnostic and treatment principles, and repair techniques for maxillary and palatal defects. It reflects the major achievements and new advancements in this field both domestically and internationally, demonstrating advanced, innovative, and practical characteristics. The book consists of twelve chapters, divided into three parts:
Part I: General Introduction
This section provides a detailed overview of the etiology and impact of maxillofacial defects, the examination and diagnostic principles for maxillofacial defects, as well as the retention techniques, impression techniques, applied materials, and pre-prosthetic surgical issues related to maxillofacial defect repair.
Part II: Basic and Applied Research on Maxillary Defect Repair
This section focuses on the biomechanical foundations of using implant and attachment techniques to repair maxillary defects and achieve the reconstruction of masticatory function.
Part III: Repair of Maxillary Defects
This section provides a detailed introduction to various repair techniques and research findings for different types of maxillary and mandibular defects, as well as hard and soft palatal defects. It highlights the application of new technologies and materials such as implant and magnetic retention techniques in maxillary defect repair, as well as the fabrication techniques for various maxillary defect prostheses.
