Features: Unconsciously, we have entered a new century, and China's economy has been developing rapidly. People's concepts are constantly being updated, and interactions with the world are becoming more frequent. An increasing number of ambitious young people are taking the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), GRE, and other exams to verify their English proficiency, hoping to study abroad through this path to realize their life's value. This has also contributed to the rising popularity of the TOEFL exam in China in recent years. Since 1987, the TOEFL Testing Center in the United States has added a writing test, known as TWE (Test of Written English), in China. This test requires candidates to write an argumentative essay in about 30 minutes, with a length of around 300 words. The essay should clearly state the candidate's viewpoint and provide sufficient reasons to support it. The writing test is scored on a six-point scale, with 4 points as the passing grade, 5 points as good, and 6 points as excellent. The score for this section is calculated separately and is not combined with the scores of the other three sections (listening, grammar, and reading). Generally, undergraduate students should aim for a score of 4, while those applying for graduate programs should aim for 5. Some popular liberal arts majors, especially those that require extensive writing skills in future careers, such as literature, language, law, journalism, and philosophy, have stricter requirements for candidates' writing scores. According to relevant statistics, the current average writing score of Chinese candidates is 3.5, which does not meet the passing threshold. This indicates that writing is a weak area for Chinese candidates. To raise candidates' awareness of writing and help them fundamentally improve their English writing skills, master the patterns of TOEFL writing in a short period, and enhance their essay scores, we have specifically compiled this book. During the writing process, we have strived to avoid the repetitive formats common in the current book market. Instead of spending much space on explaining how to write (only briefly covering some tips), we have dedicated the majority of the book to providing classic model essays for candidates to read and reflect on.
