Features: It is quite natural that most of the earliest fables in the West were created by slaves. These slaves were often from defeated, conquered tribes, nations, and even noble families of people or even nobles; they not only had a considerable cultural foundation but also experienced significant fluctuations in social status and personal identity, which prompted them to think; the moral of the fable is the result of such reflection. Although fables reflect human social life, the characters in fables are mostly animals rather than humans. Interestingly, the animal characters in fables are essentially those with the most prominent characteristics, traits, and features among animals, such as foxes and wolves; for example, among domestic animals, there are donkeys, horses, and dogs. Looking further, the animals in fables are the closest to human life. Such character choices first ensure the of fables, second ensure the familiarity of fables to readers, thereby strengthening readers' impression and comprehension of reading fables. Therefore, although fables are very ancient, they will never go out of style. Some past selections primarily chose works from a few authors, while this selection includes fables from notable authors of different periods. Because fables are short and concise, the compilers attempted to fully embody this characteristic while also including some longer fables and those with unique writing styles and forms.
